The hostel’s general manager is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and operations of the hostel. They oversee all departments and ensure the implementation of the hostel’s vibrant, social, and guest-centric concept of collective hospitality. The general manager guarantees financial results, maintains the highest standards of safety and service, and fosters a strong team culture aligned with the company’s values.
Main tasks
- Strategic and operational leadership
- Manages daily operations and ensures that all departments work efficiently and in accordance with brand standards.
- Develops and implements operational strategies to improve customer satisfaction, revenue, and team performance.
- Supervises reception, housekeeping, catering, activities/events, maintenance and security.
- Ensures that services are consistent with the social and community atmosphere of Collective Hospitality.
- Customer satisfaction and experience
- To ensure a first-class customer experience throughout the hotel.
- Ensure that customer problems, complaints and escalations are resolved promptly.
- Oversee social events and daily activities that create a lively atmosphere in the hostel. Check online reviews and ensure responses are consistent and professional.
- Leadership and team development
- To lead, mentor and motivate department heads and frontline employees.
- Ensure the effectiveness of workforce planning, scheduling and performance management.
- Liaise with HR regarding recruitment, onboarding, training, assessments, and disciplinary measures.
- Build a high-performing, service-oriented, and fun team culture.
- Financial and commercial results
- You will be responsible for the property’s profit and loss statement and achieving good financial results.
- You will prepare budgets, monitor sales targets, control costs and manage expenses.
- Monitor prices, promotions and inventory in collaboration with revenue management.
- Analyze business data to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and revenue.
5. Sales, marketing and brand communication.
- Supporting local sales initiatives, partnerships and collaborations to increase occupancy rates.
- Ensure that brand standards are consistently maintained at all customer touchpoints.
- Coordinate with the marketing department regarding promotions, events and internal activities.
6. Security, Compliance and Administration
- Ensure compliance with Thai laws, work permits, licenses, fire safety and hygiene standards.
- Manage audits, reports, SOP compliance and daily administrative activities.
- Ensure proper documentation on site, including incident reports, accounting and operational logs.
- Oversee risk management and emergency procedures.
- Property maintenance and management
- Ensure the proper maintenance of rooms, common areas, equipment and facilities.
- Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure repairs are carried out in a timely manner and plan preventive maintenance.
- Protect company assets and maintain a high standard.
Qualifications and requirements
- At least 5 years of management experience in the hotel industry, including at least 2 years in a management position.
- Strong operational background with experience in hostels, hotels, lifestyle properties or F&B/FO management.
- Proven success in leading teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and event days – Strong financial and analytical skills .
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Thai is an advantage.
- Previous work experience in Thailand or Southeast Asia is an advantage.
