Citizens of full European (EFTA,
EEA) Member Countries are able to live and work in Austria without a
visa or work permit.
If You Are From A Country That Is Not
A Full European (EFTA, EEA) Member You Must Obtain A Work Visa Or Permit
To Work In Austria.
New EU citizens (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia ) wanting to work in Austria need a work permit which they should get from their employer. After a year of legal employment their freedom of movement will be confirmed by the Labour Market Service. The freedom of movement expires if they leave Austria for more than just a short period. Austria is a member of the Schengen countries. The 15 Schengen
countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland,
Italy, Greece,
Luxembourg,
Netherlands,
Norway, Portugal,
Spain and Sweden. With a Schengen visa, you may enter one country and travel
freely throughout the Schengen zone.
Schengen Visa Information
Nationals of certain countries can visit Austria for up to
three months without a visa but will need to be granted a work permit to take
up employment. These must be applied for by the employer and obtained prior
to the departure from the country of residence.

Nationals of countries not mentioned above will not need a
visa to visit Austria

Austria doesn't currently have any working holiday agreements
with other countries
Austria Currently Has A Youth Workers Exchange Program Available
To Canadian Students And Graduates Aged Between 18 And 30 Allowing Them To
Stay In Austria For Up To 6 Months To Gain Experience In Tourism, Agriculture
And
Forestry.
