If you are a British citizen, a Swiss national or a national of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) you do not need permission to work in the United Kingdom.
The EEA includes these countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.
Bulgarian and Romanian citizens can be resident in the UK for up to 3 months without a visa but will need to obtain a work permit if they wish to take employment.

If you have a parent that was born in the UK or Ireland
you may not need a visa at all and may qualify for citizenship or right
of abode and could apply for a British or Irish passport. If one of
your grandparents was british, then you may be eligible for an ancestral

Nationals of certain countries can visit the UK for up to three
months without a visa but will need to be granted a work permit
to take up employment.

not need a visa to visit the UK for up to 6 months.

Four Year UK Ancestry
Employment Visas are available to those
have a grandparent who was born within the shores of the United
Kingdom. You must be a Commonwealth Citizen in order to be considered
for this Visa.
If you are from a country that is not stated above you may be
able to obtain a work permit if you have specialist skills or
qualifications sought by UK Employers
Work Permit applications can only be made by an employer in
the UK who wishes to employ a foreign national to work in England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. A Work Permit application
should be made for a named person to do a specific job for the
employer.
Am I eligible to get a UK work permit?
To hold a UK work permit, you will generally need to have high
level skills and experience. To get a 'full' work permit you
will need either
A UK degree or equivalent qualification
3 years senior level experience in a relevant, specialised area
An HND level occupation which entitles you to do a specific
job
A general HND level qualification and 1 year relevant experience
3 years relevant experience at NVQ level 3 or above
If Your Spouse Is British you are eligible initially for a one-year
probationary spouse visa. After one year you can apply for indefinite
leave to remain.
Student Visas are available to those that have gained a confirmed
place for a course at a publicly funded establishment of higher
or further education; or at a bona fide private educational establishment,
or independent fee paying school.
Those students whose student visa is issued for longer than
six months, may then engage in casual work for up to 20hrs per
week, and up to 40hrs per week during college holidays. The permission
to work is not intended in order to provide monies on which to
subsist.
