Australia Visa Information

All travellers to Australia, other than Australian and New Zealand citizens, are required to hold a valid visa to travel to Australia.

Travellers holding the following passports may apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) through the ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) Web Site

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States Of America and Vatican City

Working Holiday Visas: Australia has reciprocal Working Holiday maker arrangements with the United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malta, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China, Finland, the Republic of Cyprus, France, and Italy, Belgium, Estonia, Bangladesh, Chile and Taiwan, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey And The United States of America.

Australia is currently negotiating working holiday arrangements with further countries - Andorra, Austria, Greece, Iceland, Singapore, Spain, and Switzerland.

Only citizens of the above-mentioned countries are eligible to apply for Working Holiday visas. All visa applications must be lodged overseas. Citizens of Japan, Korea, Malta and Germany must apply in their own country.

You must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and be single or married without children.

You need to show that:

The main reason for coming to Australia is to holiday and that any work that you do is to support yourself while you are on holiday

You have a good chance of finding temporary work to supplement your holiday funds;

You have a return ticket or sufficient funds for a return fare and for the first part of your stay; and you intend to leave Australia at the end of your authorised stay.

If you are granted a working holiday visa, you are allowed a stay of 12 months from the date of initial entry to Australia.

As a working holiday maker you are permitted a stay of 12 months from the date of entry to Australia. You are permitted to any kind of work of a temporary or casual nature. As the main purpose of you visit is work and travel work with one employer for a period of more than 3 months is not permitted and you should not work for the full period of your stay.

As of November 2005 Those that spend at least 3months of that year doing rural, seasonal work in Australia will be able to apply for a second 1 year visa.

There is a Work And Holiday visa for Tertiary-educated people between the ages of 18 and 30, from the USA, Thailand, Chile and Turkey (note: Australia has signed a Work and Holiday visa agreement with Bangladesh but it is not yet in effect) who would like to take an extended holiday of up to 12 months in Australia. Most countries under this work visa for Australia have an annual limit of 100 Work and Holiday visas per year.
