L'Arche Is Recruiting Assistants To Live
And Work With People With Learning Disabilities In Centres Across The
UK
As a L'Arche assistant you'll have your own room in a shared house. Your daily needs - food, laundry, etc - will be met and you'll receive a modest income. Typically five or six assistants share a house with the same number of people with learning disabilities. Together you'll do the cooking and shopping, go to college or work. Meals are eaten together much like any family.
There are regular days off and generous holidays. You'll be encouraged to work towards appropriate qualifications including S/NVQs and in areas such as first aid and food hygiene. You'll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and you may learn something new like sign language, craftwork or horticulture.
Tim, an assistant in L'Arche Preston says 'Living with a whole range of people, with all sorts of abilities, gives me the chance to make real relationships. People with learning disabilities have so much to give - they help me as much as I help them. It's a way of life I'd really recommend.'
