Working In France

France offers many jobs in it's winter and summer tourist industries. The largest Ski Resorts In France include Alpe d'Huez, Les Portes du Soleil, Courchevel, Les Arcs, Meribel, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Chamonix, La Plagne, Val d'Isere, Tignes and Serre-Chevalier. Between the months of December and April there are many jobs offered in Hotels, Bars and Restaurants. Many British and European ski companies operate in the French Alps so work can also be found as Representatives, Chalet Hosts and Childcare Staff.

Several British and European camping companies operate throughout France and jobs can be found in the summer working in campsites.

Jobs Teaching English are offered, particularly during the summer where there are many positions offered in Summer Camps teaching children.

Fruit pickers are needed throughout the year picking apples and maize as well as grape, peaches, strawberry and cherry picking, particularly in the South East and West and Loire and Rhone Valleys. Strawberries - May - June, Cherries - May - July, Peaches June - September, Apples - September - October and Grapes September - October. The A.N.P.E advertise many of these jobs on there web site.

Au Pairs usually need some childcare experience but won't always need to be able to speak fluent french. Au pairs live with host families, looking after the children and perform basic domestic duties such as cleaning. Wages are often low but food and accommodation is usually included.

Voluntary job opportunities can be found including restoration projects.

France has a minimum wage legislation known as the SMIC (Salaire Minimum Interprofessionel de Croissance). The rate of the SMIC is indexed to the cost of living and increases periodically (usually at the beginning of the summer)
