Camp Scientists For Our Field Research Site, And An Expedition Manager
To Lead Our Marine Conservation Expeditions.
Blue Ventures is an award
winning UK-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to facilitating
projects that enhance global coral reef
conservation and research. Since its creation Blue Ventures has
co-ordinated marine
projects in Madagascar, Tanzania, New Zealand, South Africa and the
Comoros Islands.
Volunteers
Overseas, volunteers are responsible for carrying
out field-research, as well as managing the day-to-day running
of our field camp in the
remote village of Andavadoaka in South west Madagascar. Working
as a Blue Ventures volunteer is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding
experience requiring hard work and commitment. Blue Ventures recruits
volunteers from all nations and backgrounds to work as part of
a
dynamic team contributing to an award winning marine research programme.
Volunteers
will participate in Scuba diving research and our resident Dive
Instructors can teach volunteers to dive as well as continue dive
training to
PADI Divemaster.
We give volunteers the chance to make a difference in conservation.

Camp Scientist
We currently have a vacancy for the
position of camp scientist at our research camp in Andavadoaka,
southwest Madagascar. The
position
is
voluntary, and for a minimum period of 6 months.
The role of the camp scientist involves planning, directing and
overseeing all marine, coastal and socio-economic research
carried out at the
research camp, as well as training research volunteers during
the marine science training periods at the beginnings of each
volunteer
expedition.
The successful applicant will be qualified to PADI divemaster
level or equivalent, with a masters degree or equivalent in
marine ecology,
coastal management, or suitable related discipline.
Applicants should
also have a working knowledge of French, as well as experience of
carrying out field research on coral
reefs and
related habitats and of living and working in remote tropical
environments.

Expedition Manager
We are currently looking for an Expedition manager to lead our
marine conservation expeditions in South West Madagascar. The
applicant must have the following attributes: Leadership skills,
tireless
energy,
common sense, confidence, scientific knowledge, travelling experience,
management skills, diplomacy and excellent personal skills. The
applicant must have the wherewithal and resources to deal quickly
and efficiently
with number of situations that can occur in the field, as well
as having
the foresight to prevent problems before they arise.
The applicant must have at least a PADI rescue diver qualification
or equivalent as well as a love of marine biology. The successful
applicant will be asked to stay in position for a minimum of
six months in the
field. The applicant will be asked to arrive at the site a month
prior to taking up the position in order to familiarise themselves
with the
workings of the site. A knowledge of French would also be an
advantage.
